We’re starting a new online meetup series for users

We have a hypothesis: OpenSAFELY will be better, easier and more rewarding to use if users have more ways to get in touch with us and each other. Come and help us test this hypothesis.

Starting on Wednesday 25th June, we’ll be launching a new series of online meetups. These will include regular casual office hours, and also a dedicated ehrQL coding club where folks can come and get help with any questions they have, or share any top tips or workflows they’ve developed.

These events are open to everybody, not just current OpenSAFELY users. If you’ve been thinking about using OpenSAFELY for future work and would like to know more, we’d love to see you.

The first office hours will be on the 25th June, and will recur fortnightly after that (Google Meet link). These events are for users to ask us questions about the OpenSAFELY service, talk to each other about their work, and have another avenue through which to keep up to date with any news from our side.

The first ehrQL coding club will be on the 2nd July, and will recur fortnightly after that (Google Meet link). These events are for people to get help with their code, learn more about how ehrQL works and how best to use it, and for us to make sure people know about all the neat features and updates that we add. Each session will have a nominal topic of discussion and some learning materials, but we’re not obligated to stay on topic!

In future, we also plan to launch other streams of events if it turns out they’d be useful. For example, we’d like to launch a series of events for people using OpenSAFELY for service analytics, and one for general members of the public to come and learn about what we do. If either of those is you, please do get in touch and let us know your thoughts about a dedicated meetup!

As always, we want to know what you think. We’ve got an anonymous feedback form specifically for online events, so please tell us if there’s anything we can or should be doing (or not doing!).
